Derek Bermel: World Premiere

The Poulenc Trio is thrilled to be in the advanced planning stages of a new work for Trio by the acclaimed Grammy-nominated composer Derek Bermel. For this project we’ll be working with a consortium of several US and international chamber music series to contribute to the project and host the premiere during the 2019-2020 season.

WORLD PREMIERE COMMISSION BY ANDREW LIST

2019 marks the 200th anniversary of Walt Whitman’s birth.  Whitman was an outspoken music-lover who has inspired generations of composers and performers.  To celebrate, the Poulenc Trio will tour with a newly commissioned world-premiere work by Boston-based composer Andrew List, paired with one of Whitman's favorite works, Beethoven's Op. 38 Trio.

In Schnittke's Suite in the Old Style, the  Soviet-era composer sets aside his radically serial style in favor of a more accessible approach. This version pairs each of the piece's five movements with a poem by award-winning poet Lia Purpura, from her collection It Shouldn’t Have Been Beautiful.

Trains of Thought: Animated

What do thoughts look like? How do they sound?

Trains of Thought: Animated is a collaboration between The Poulenc Trio, composer Viet Cuong and animators Elizabeth and Alden Phelps. Three years in the making, this new work combines Cuong’s kinetic score and the Phelps’ stunningly beautiful stop-motion animation into a breathtaking live mixed-media experience.
